Steve Johnson is the General Manager and Chief Engineer at Desert Water Agency (DWA) in Palm Springs. Steve oversees the operations of DWA, a State Water Project Contractor, and ensures the reliability, safety, and sustainability of the Agency’s water supply for customers in Palm Springs and a portion of Cathedral City. In addition, he leads DWA’s regional groundwater management and planning efforts, helping ensure the area has a sustainable water supply for the future.
Steve also guides DWA’s participation in statewide efforts such as the Delta Conveyance Project and Sites Reservoir – key projects to increase the region’s water supply portfolio.
Steve started his DWA career in 1995 as an assistant engineer and began his current position in February 2024. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
