Susana Carranza is a promotora and tireless advocate for community health and dignity, with more than 32 years of experience working hand-in-hand with immigrant and rural communities across California.
Born into an immigrant family, Susana was raised in a small town on the outskirts of Santa Cruz County, where she witnessed firsthand the daily challenges faced by hard-working Latino families.
These early experiences ignited her passion to become a promotora and community health advocate in the pursuit of justice and wellness, and to elevate the collective voice of her community.
Susana has served as a board member in Santa Cruz County’s nonprofit funding distribution committee and worked in grassroots health initiatives and preventive care programs at CBOs, parishes, and community coalitions.
Currently, she serves as the Asthma Program Manager in the CalAIM Department with Visión y Compromiso, where she promotes equitable access to preventive health services, specifically focusing on asthma and environmental health support. Her work drives practice and policy changes based on the direct experiences of communities affected by air pollution, climate change, and systematic barriers to healthcare access.
Susana firmly believes that the power for lasting change begins within the community itself—and that all people deserve to live with dignity, health, and hope.
